Ruiqi Jin, PhD

Post-Doctoral Fellow
Population Science

Why do I work in the ACS?

As a nurse researcher, I have witnessed the immense burden of cancer—physical suffering, fear, stigma, and financial hardship. I want to work with the ACS to contribute to impactful research that advances cancer prevention, treatment, and patient support, ultimately improving outcomes for individuals and communities affected by cancer."

At ACS since 2025

As a joint post-doctoral fellow in the Population Science department at the American Cancer Society (ACS) and the Winship Cancer Institute at Emory University, Ruiqi Jin, PhD, works on cancer survivorship, financial toxicity, and patient-reported outcomes under the mentorship of Anita Peoples, PhD, MPH, at the ACS and Ilana Graetz, PhD, and Canhua Xiao, PhD, at Emory.

Research focus and accomplishments

As part of her doctorate work, Jin led a research project on the impact of financial toxicity on cancer survivors' health outcomes, supported by the PhRMA Foundation's Predoctoral Fellowship in Value Assessment-Health Outcomes Research. Her current objectives include:

  • Investigating the effects of health disparities on cancer survivors' quality of life and symptom burden, particularly for those with low socioeconomic status or living in rural or geographically isolated areas.
  • Examining the relationship between subjective and objective financial toxicity and survivorship outcomes, including quality of life, symptoms, and mortality.
